Camilo Cogua Rodríguez: TRACKS OF TIME AND DISTANCE (Spuren von Zeit und Distanz)
Camilo Cogua-Rodríguez ist Artist in Residence im MuseumsQuartier Wien auf Einladung von ASIFA Austria.
Camilo Cogua-Rodríguez’ künstlerische Arbeit erforscht die Möglichkeiten erweiterter Animation und interdisziplinären Schaffens. Durch seine Praxis untersucht er die Grenzen von Materie, Raum und Körper und sucht nach ästhetischer Hybridisierung sowie den gemeinsamen zeitlichen Dimensionen von traditioneller Animation, Volumen und Skulptur. Sein Ansatz versteht Animation als ein physisches und wahrnehmungsbezogenes Labor, um Abwesenheit und somatische Erfahrung hervorzurufen.
Screening/Talk:
Am 29.07.2026 eröffnet Camilo seine Ausstellung im ASIFAKEIL und präsentiert im Raum D eine Auswahl eigener Filme und von anderen Mitgliedern von ASIFA Colombia. Er spricht über seinen künstlerischen Zugang zum Medium Animation und über die spezifische Situation von Animationskünstler:innen in seiner Heimat Kolumbien. In seinem Talk beschreibt Camilo Cogua Rodriguez Animation als multidisziplinären und kollektiven Prozess. Ausgehend von seinen Erfahrungen in führender Position bei kollaborativen künstlerischen Initiativen in Kolumbien – mit ASIFA Colombia, dem Reclab Collective, und der Pontificia Universidad Javeriana – wird Camilo Einblicke in seine kreative Praxis und die Überschneidung von Animation, Skulptur und Technologie gewähren. Der Event wird Screenings von Arbeiten wie beispielsweise „Bogotá me Kafka“ und „So I wait for you as a lonely house“ enthalten, sowie eine Demonstration seiner experimentellen Animationsmaschinenprojekte.

Camilo Cogua-Rodríguez’s artistic work explores the possibilities of expanded animation and interdisciplinary creation. Through his practice, he investigates the boundaries of matter, space, and the body, seeking aesthetic hybridization and the shared temporal dimensions between traditional animation, volume, and sculpture. His approach proposes animation as a physical and perceptual laboratory to evoke absence and somatic experience.
On July 29 Camilo opens his ASIFAKEIL exhibition and presents a choice of his own films as well as of fellow animators from ASIFA Colombia. In his artist talk, Camilo Cogua-Rodríguez will share his approach to animation through multidisciplinary, collaborative, and collective practices. Drawing from his extensive experience in Colombia leading artistic initiatives with organizations such as ASIFA Colombia, the Reclab Collective, and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, he will discuss how collective creation and expanded techniques can redefine the medium.
The talk will feature screenings and insights into projects such as „Bogotá me Kafka“ and „So I wait for you as a lonely house“, as well as his experimental animation machines. Camilo explores the intersection between matter, technology, and memory, positioning animation as an open laboratory for physical and shared experience.
